House Appropriations Committee

Objective

Engaging Virginians with their State Government's Budget.

The Foundation for Virginia’s Budget

The Virginia House Appropriations Committee partnered with us to redesign its public-facing website—an essential but complex resource that supports legislators, staff, and the public.

The existing site contained decades of reports, meeting records, and budget materials, making navigation and discovery difficult for both internal users and constituents. Our goal was to bring clarity and structure to that complexity while preserving the transparency and rigor required of a legislative body.

Working closely with the Virginia House Appropriations Committee team, we reorganized the site around core content pillars—Committee Information, Budget Overview, Topic-Based Research, and Reports—creating clear, predictable pathways for different audiences. We introduced collapsible archives, intuitive filtering, and a session-aware structure that distinguishes active legislative periods from interim research and reporting.

The redesigned site prioritizes accessibility, mobile responsiveness, and ease of maintenance, with a flexible WordPress framework and integrations that supports external legislative tools. The result is a clean, modern experience that makes Virginia’s budget process more approachable, navigable, and transparent.
